Whiteside multi-side router bit - one tool makes both cuts.
The multi-side effectively cuts a ‘birdsmouth’ joint allowing the assembly of multi-side projects. ‘Birdsmouth’ joints are synonymous with the making of ship masts. Only one edge of the stock is cut/notched, the notched edge improves ease of assembly and total glue area. The strength of multi-side projects will be maximized with full circle completion.
Witeside 3506: for 6 and 12 sided projects
Whiteside 3508: for 8 sided projects
Whiteside 3516: for 16 sided projects
‘Face up’ and ‘face down’ orientation of stock being cut on the router table is important:
• 6 sided are cut with exterior face of project ‘face up’
• 12 sided are cut with exterior face of project ‘face down’
• 8 sided are cut with exterior face of project ‘face up’
• 16 sided are cut with exterior face of project ‘face down’
Thickness of stock and cut height of bit will determine whether the exterior finish of project is either: flush or ribbed.
Ribbed finish protrusions can be made flush by cutting, planing and sanding.
Ribbed finish is recommended with 12 and 16 sided projects because of joint strength. Flush finish 12 and 16 sided projects results in a smaller/finer key on the interior side of the project.
Router speed recommended at 16000 RPM.
Recommended for table mounted routers and also CNC.
All Whiteside’s cutting tips are hand brazed, precision ground and machined in the USA from industrial grade micro grain carbide.
